Jaguar has officially introduced the Type 01, an all-electric four-door grand tourer created to lead one of the most significant transformations in the British automaker’s history. Unveiled in New York on October 6, the production model combines more than 1,000 PS with an estimated 400 miles of EPA range and a new electrical architecture developed exclusively for Jaguar.

The Type 01 is not simply another electric model joining an established lineup. It is the first vehicle of Jaguar’s new generation and the foundation of the company’s renewed position as a lower-volume, high-end luxury brand.
Orders are scheduled to open in early 2027, with the first customer deliveries expected during the second half of that year. Jaguar has not yet announced pricing, battery capacity or complete performance figures.
Jaguar begins its new era in New York
Jaguar selected New York City for the Type 01’s world premiere, using digital displays in Times Square, DUMBO and the Lower East Side before presenting the car at an event in West Chelsea.
The location reflected the company’s attempt to connect its reinvention with art, fashion and contemporary culture. However, beyond the presentation, the vehicle revealed several important technical details about Jaguar’s future.
The Type 01 is a four-door electric grand tourer rather than an SUV. That choice separates it from many premium electric launches and allows Jaguar to return to the long, low proportions historically associated with its most recognizable cars.
Its exterior features a long hood, low roofline, wide stance and flowing profile. Jaguar says the design contains references to vehicles such as the E-type and XJS, although the Type 01 does not attempt to recreate either model.
Instead, it uses familiar grand-touring proportions as the starting point for a more modern and deliberately dramatic design.
More than 1,000 PS from a dedicated electric platform
The Type 01 is built on the Jaguar Electric Architecture, commonly identified as JEA. Unlike an adapted combustion platform, JEA was developed specifically for the company’s next generation of electric vehicles.
Jaguar says the Type 01 produces more than 1,000 PS, equivalent to approximately 986 conventional horsepower. That makes it the most powerful production road car the brand has developed.
The automaker has not confirmed the number of electric motors, torque output or acceleration time. Therefore, it is not yet possible to determine exactly how the Type 01 will compare with other high-performance electric grand tourers.
Nevertheless, the output places it firmly among the most powerful luxury EVs. More importantly, Jaguar describes the car as having power in reserve, suggesting that its engineering priorities extend beyond rapid acceleration.
A grand tourer must remain comfortable, stable and predictable over long distances. Jaguar says extensive development and validation have focused on giving the Type 01 a dual personality: composed during normal travel and responsive when the driver wants a more dynamic experience.
An EPA-estimated range of 400 miles
Jaguar is targeting approximately 400 miles of range under the United States Environmental Protection Agency testing procedure. If the production vehicle achieves that figure, it would provide enough capacity for long-distance travel without requiring unusually frequent charging stops.
The final real-world range will depend on several factors, including wheel selection, temperature, speed, driving style and climate-control use. Official ratings may also vary between regions because EPA and WLTP testing procedures produce different results.
Jaguar has not disclosed the battery’s usable capacity. However, delivering 400 miles alongside more than 1,000 PS will require careful management of efficiency, aerodynamics, battery temperature and vehicle weight.
The manufacturer describes the Type 01 as its most aerodynamic road car to date, but it has not published a drag coefficient. Its low roof, smooth surfaces and long silhouette should help reduce resistance at highway speeds, where aerodynamics can have a major effect on energy consumption.
An 850-volt system enables 350-kW charging
The JEA platform uses an 850-volt electrical architecture and supports charging at up to 350 kW. Jaguar claims the Type 01 can recover approximately 200 miles of range in 13 minutes when connected to a compatible charger under suitable conditions.
This does not represent a complete battery recharge or a standard 10-to-80-percent measurement. Instead, it describes how much usable driving range can be added during a short stop.
Actual charging performance will depend on battery temperature, starting charge level, charger capability and environmental conditions. The highest speeds will also require access to a high-output DC station capable of supplying the power requested by the vehicle.
Even with those qualifications, the figure suggests that Jaguar is designing the Type 01 around long-distance use. A short charging stop could provide enough energy for several additional hours of highway travel.
The 850-volt architecture should also help manage heat and electrical current more efficiently than a conventional 400-volt system during high-power charging.
A luxury interior focused on architecture and materials
Jaguar previously revealed that the Type 01’s cabin follows an architectural approach rather than a traditional dashboard layout. The interior is intended to feel open and carefully structured, using distinctive materials and visual separation between different areas.
The four-door configuration should provide easier access to the rear seats than a conventional two-door grand tourer. It also broadens the vehicle’s usefulness without forcing Jaguar to adopt the taller shape of an SUV.
Complete dimensions, passenger capacity and luggage volume have not been published. Those specifications will be important because the Type 01 must combine its dramatic proportions with the practicality expected from a modern luxury GT.
Technology will play a central role, but Jaguar’s strategy suggests that screens will not be the only focus. Craftsmanship, materials and the physical experience of the cabin are expected to help distinguish the car from less expensive electric models.
What the Type 01 name represents
The model’s name was chosen to connect Jaguar’s history with its electric future. The word “Type” references historic cars such as the E-type, while the number zero represents the absence of tailpipe emissions.
The number one identifies the vehicle as the first model in Jaguar’s new generation.
This naming system gives the Type 01 a clear role within the brand. It is not presented as an electric derivative of an existing sedan or crossover, but as the beginning of a completely different product family.
Jaguar has confirmed that the car was designed, engineered and will be manufactured in the United Kingdom. That keeps development and production closely connected to the company’s British identity during a period of major change.
A high-risk transformation for Jaguar
The Type 01 arrives after Jaguar reduced its traditional model range and began repositioning itself further upmarket. That transformation gives the company an opportunity to start with a clean design and technical platform, but it also creates significant expectations.
Existing Jaguar enthusiasts will judge whether the new vehicle preserves the refinement, performance and emotional appeal associated with the brand. New luxury buyers, meanwhile, will compare it with established premium EVs offering strong acceleration, advanced software and rapidly improving charging technology.
Price will be a decisive factor. More than 1,000 PS, a bespoke platform and limited-volume British production indicate that the Type 01 will occupy a premium segment. However, Jaguar has not yet provided a starting figure or details about equipment levels.
Reliability, software quality, charging consistency and dealership support will also influence its reception. Dramatic styling may attract attention, but long-term success will depend on how convincingly the production car performs in daily use.
Why the Jaguar Type 01 matters
The Type 01 provides the clearest evidence yet of Jaguar’s future direction. It combines a dedicated EV platform, ultra-fast charging, long-distance capability and the highest output ever offered by a Jaguar road car.
Its four-door grand-touring format also gives the brand a distinct alternative to the growing number of electric luxury SUVs. Rather than following the most common market formula, Jaguar is placing design and road presence at the center of its comeback.
Several questions remain unanswered, including battery size, acceleration, dimensions and price. Those details will determine how competitive the Type 01 is when orders open in early 2027.
For now, the car represents an ambitious reset. With more than 1,000 PS, a targeted 400-mile range and the ability to add 200 miles in 13 minutes, the Type 01 has the numbers required to attract attention.
The greater challenge will be proving that Jaguar’s new electric flagship can turn those specifications into the refined and memorable driving experience expected from a true grand tourer.
